Pair of Lounge Chairs by Franco Albini Italy / USA
early 1950s
Designed for Knoll in 1950, Albini first evolved this distinctive configuration for an armchair (where the arms extend rearwards and wrap around to support the seat back) in the early 1930s.
Though not the final iteration of this basic form (which was widely copied, including by Gearge Nelson), the two versions for Knoll - with both wood and metal frames - were the definitive evocations of the Albini theme.
Supremely elegant and no less comfortable for it.
