uploading Collection of 70 Danish Wooden Peppermills
Denmark
1950s - 1970s
In the late 1950s, versatile Danish designer Jens Quistgaard (1919-2008) developed the idea of a highly sculptural combination peppermill / salt shaker as a kind of functional ornament for the table. From his mind and hand flowed an extended family of forms, all with the same purpose, and all made from exotic woods. Most were crafted in Siamese teak, but special ones were occasionally produced in Brazilian rosewood, wenge, and other rare woods.

This collection comprises not only the peppermills created by Quistgaard, but others produced by fellow Danes inspired by his example. Many of these pieces are extremely rare; the collection took nine years to put together, and it is believed by enthusiasts to be the most comprehensive collection of Danish peppermills yet assembled.

The 70 peppermills are effectively displayed on a bespoke wall-mounted unit that is included with the collection. (The Marcel Breuer chaise is not included...) Each peppermill is completely functional, and is ready to be used, if so desired. The collection would make a striking wall decoration in a dining room or kitchen.
