Early and Rare Carved Wood Panel by Evelyn Ackerman U.S.A.
1952
This bas relief wood panel, carved in Evelyn Ackerman's lovely neo-medieval style, is a a very early piece from the beginning of Ackerman's career in California, at the start of the 1950s. Evelyn Ackerman and her husband Jerry were important exponents of the post-war Southern California design scene. Evelyn's work was largely figurative, while Jerry's was more usually abstract. Together they produced a wide variety of exquisitely designed and crafted objects which represent the best of postwar California design.
This piece was recently reunited with the Ackermans, at which time they confirmed its authenticity and signed it on the the reverse of the panel.
